LAPLACE – Terry Robiskie, a star at Second Ward High School and LSU, was promoted to interim head coach of the Washington Redskins Monday afternoon.

Robiskie was named after Redskins owner Daniel Snyder fired head coach Norv Turner. The Redskins, which had brought in a number of high-pricedaging free agents in the offseason for a run at the Super Bowl, are currently 7-6.

Robiskie, 46, is in his seventh season with the Redskins. He has served asthe team’s receivers coach and more recently as the passing game coordinator. He was an assistant coach with the Oakland Raiders from1982-93, helping the Raiders to the Super Bowl title in 1984. Robiskieserved as the offensive coordinator, tight ends coach, special teams coach and running back coach with the Raiders.

Robiskie starred as a quarterback for Second Ward in the early 1970s, helping the school to state championships in 1971 and 1972.

“He was a good student and a fine athlete,” St. John Parish councilmanCleveland Farlough, Robiskie’s principal at Second Ward, said. “He wasalways a highly-motivated person. I’m not surprised at the heights atwhich he has reached. It shows how far you can go if you keep at it. I haveno doubt that if he was given the job on a permanent basis, he would be successful with it.”Former teammate Antoine Edwards, who now coaches the West St. Johnbasketball team, had nothing but good things to say about Robiskie.

“We went to school together and were teammates on a championship team,” said Edwards, “He’s a pretty nice guy. He was always that lovableguy that could make you smile. Plus he is a great athlete.””I’m real pleased for him,” continued Edwards. “It is a great honor. I wishhim the very best and I hope he does a great job.” Robiskie went on to star as a running back at LSU from 1973-76. Hecurrently stands fifth on the Tigers’ all-time rushing list with 2,517 yards and 29 touchdowns. He was an all-SEC selection in 1976 aftergaining 1,117 yards.

Robiskie went on to be drafted by Oakland where he played for three years.

He spent his final two years in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins.

Robiskie has been mentioned for a number of head coaching jobs in the past, including LSU in both 1990 and 1994.

“It is certainly a major plus for the community and all those around him,” St. John Parish school board member Leroy Keller said. “It is one of themost wonderful things to happen to the community. He was an outstandingplayer, a nice young man and a nice gentleman.”Glenda Gaudet, principal of West St. John High School, knows Robiskie andsaid, “I think it is a great honor. He is the most deserving of the job.”The Redskins are still in the hunt for the playoffs with games remaining at Dallas and Pittsburgh and home against Arizona.

The Redskins appeared to be a lock for the postseason this year when they brought in players such as Deion Sanders, Bruce Smith and Jeff George. Butthe Redskins have been inconsistent under quarterbacks Brad Johnson and George. The end for Turner came Sunday when the Redskins lost to theGiants, 9-7.
