Tigers back in playoffs at home against Tors

BOUTTE – Hahnville football certainly came back with a vengeance.

The Tigers, who missed the playoffs the last two years, came back this year to accomplish their first undefeated season since 1994. Hahnville also wonits first outright District 7-5A title since that season. The Tigers shared thetitle with Central Lafourche in 1995.

That 1994 season ended in a Class 5A title for the Tigers. Hahnville beginsthe road to duplicate that feat Friday night against Sulphur. Kickoff isscheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.Hahnville enters the game as the fourth seed with a 10-0 overall record and a 6-0 record in District 7-5A. The Tigers are coming off a 39-10 win atThibodaux that wrapped up the district title.

Hahnville was playing without starting quarterback Dawan Landry but still rolled up 310 yards in offense. Backup quarterback Nick Cannon filled inadmirably, completing 6-of-12 passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns.

Skyler Boyle led a rushing attack that gained 210 yards, rushing for 118 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries.

The Hahnville defense held Thibodaux to 170 total yards, 146 rushing. TheTigers finished second in the district in scoring defense, allowing 56 points in district games and 95 overall.

The Hahnville offense led the district in scoring with 193 points in six district games and 359 overall. Boyle was among the leading rushers in the area with915 yards and 15 touchdowns. Landry completed 61-of-126 passes for1,041 yards. He also scored 15 touchdowns.Sulphur finished its season at 6-4, finishing third in District 3-5A behind Carencro and Barbe.

The Tornadoes closed out their season with a 30-14 victory over Lafayette.

Clint LeBlanc passed for 300 yards and a touchdown and Derrick Trahan ran for another 156 yards and a score. Sanders Williams also scored on atouchdown run and Brain Swire returned an interception for another score.

Sulphur racked up 537 yards in offense while the defense forced four turnovers.

Sulphur returns to the playoffs after finishing 10-2 last season and advancing to the regionals. The Tornadoes returned nine starters from thatteam, including Williams, the team’s leading rusher last year. LeBlanc alsoreturned at quarterback with Nathan Stephens, the leading receiving, returning as well. Up front, the Tornadoes are led by guards Matt Vincentand Arthur Vincent.

Swire is back at linebacker. Also returning in the linebacking corps is BretBurgess while Blandon Jean is back on the line and Jeff Bimle in the secondary.

The winner of Friday’s game will play the winner of St. Augustine and Higginsnext week in the regionals.
