Local Green Wave stars have game to remember

LAPLACE – Tulane had a day to remember last Saturday, defeating Southern Methodist, 29-17, to break a seven-game losing streak.
The game was also memorable for two local graduates now playing for the Green Wave.
Punter Casey Roussel was named the Conference USA co-special teams player of the week. The junior from St. Charles Catholic punted four timesfor the Green Wave for 203 yards, a 50.8-yard average. He shared theaward with UAB’s Rhett Gallego who kicked the winning field goal against LSU.
Wide receiver Roydell Williams caught his first touchdown pass as a collegian, a 3-yard strike from Patrick Ramsey with 2:37 left in the first quarter. The freshman from East St. John had two catches for 53 yards.Williams’ former teammate at East St. John, Kerry Watkins, also scoredover the weekend for Georgia Tech. Watkins, a sophomore, had a 7-yardtouchdown reception from George Godsey in the Yellow Jackets’ 30-23 loss at North Carolina State last Thursday.
Lutcher graduate Chad Carter carried 10 times for 23 yards in Nicholls State’s 44-3 loss at Western Illinois. Another Lutcher grad, KennethJohnson, had one catch for six yards in Southern Mississippi’s 28-6 win at Oklahoma State.
