ALEXANDER LAPLACE – Joseph Alexander, 69, a native of Norco and resident of LaPlace, died July 5. He was the husband of the late Lillie Mae Alexander and father ofJune, Josie, Gene and August Alexander.

He was also the son of the late Joseph Sr. and Odessa Alexander and brotherof Geraldine Martin; the Rev. Vernon Edmon; Lawrence and Arthur Bailey;Lauralee and Robert Alexander and the late Eloise Johnson.

He is also survived by a number of grandchildren.

Services are today at 10 a.m. at New Vision Baptist Church, LaPlace, withinterment at Montz Cemetery. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

BENNETT NORCO – Virgil E. “Benny” Bennett, 79, a native of Greensburg and residentof Norco for 54 years, died July 1. He was the husband of Lucy TroxlerBennett and father of Sandra Peveler, Darlene Ayala, Susan Poche and Betty, E. Paul and Gilbert Bennett.He was also the brother of Beatrice Cutrer, Irma Levatino and Patsy Beauchamp.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren.

He was a retired supervisor for the St. Charles Parish SewerageDepartment.

Services were July 4 in the chapel of H.C. Alexander Funeral Home, Norco,with interment at St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery, Destrehan.

BORNE EDGARD – Agnes Farnell Borne, 54, a native of Edgard and resident of LaPlace, died July 1. She was the wife of David Borne, by first marriage, thewife of John Farnell Jr., by second marriage, and mother of Nirla Farnell andTanipha Johnson.

She was also the daughter of the late William Sr. and Irene Thomas andsister of Wilberine Anderson, Amy Alexander, Wilhelmina Bartholomew and the late Augustine, Raymond, William, Wilfred, Wilbert and Ervy Thomas.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren.

Services were July 5 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard, withinterment at the church cemetery.

CATALANOTTO METAIRIE – Peter Benny Catalanotto, 86, a native of Hester and resident of the New Orleans area for several years, died July 3. He was the husband ofDorothy M. Catalanotto and step-father of Sharon Updegraff, Linda Becklerand Patrick McCoy.

He was also the son of the late Antonio and Mary Frances Pernicaro Catalanotto and brother of Anthony Catalanotto and the late Mary Mitchell and Margaret and Joseph Catalanotto.

He is also survived by two step-grandchildren.

He was a World War II Army veteran in the European Theatre of Operations and earned a medal with five battle stars.

Services were July 7 in the chapel of Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, Metairie, with interment at St. Louis No. 3 Cemetery, New Orleans.

DeGROFF GRAMERCY – Robert R. DeGroff, 82, a native of Ellensville, N.Y. and residentof Gramercy, died July 1. He was the husband of the late May Millet andfather of Kathleen Guidry.

He was also the son of the late Ralph and Anna DeGroff and brother of the late Kathryn Evans.

He is also survived by three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II.Services were July 7 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Gramercy, with interment at St. Joseph Mausoleum, Paulina.

FIFFIE HAHNVILLE – Rosemary Harris Fiffie, 69, a native of Edgard and resident of St. Charles Parish for 14 years, died June 30. She was the mother of DeidraRoberton, Ida Nathan, Debbie Scott and Alvin Jr., Linda, Anthony, A.J., Eva,Marva, Edlis and Troy Fiffie.

She was also the daughter of the late Jessie Sr. and Albertina Johnson andsister of Doris Henry and Jessie Johnson Jr.

She is also survived by 24 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were July 5 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Hahnville, with interment at the church cemetery.

GREEN LAPLACE – Princess Ireal Isaac Green, 7 days old, died June 30. She was thedaughter of Willie and Carletta Isaac and sister of Kendall Adams Jr., Justin,Dwione, Tolisha and Willie Isaac III.

She was also the granddaughter of Edward and Carol Green and Willie Sr. andBrenda Isaac.

Services were July 6 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, LaPlace, with intermentat St. John Memorial Gardens.

JACOB RESERVE – Eleanor Jacob Jacob, 90, a native and resident of Reserve, died July 3. She was the wife of the late Samuel Jacob Sr. and mother of BeverlyIngraffia, Rita Cancienne, Karen Bailey and Samuel Jr., Kirt and Anatole”Touie” Jacob.

She was also the daughter of the late Camille and Amaselie Rodrigues Jacob and sister of the late Joseph Jacob.

She is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Services were July 6 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Reserve, with intermentat the church cemetery.

JOHNSON MT. AIRY – Florida “Flu” Rogers Johnson, 81, a native of Mt. Airy and residentof New Orleans, died July 2. She was the wife of the late Mitchell Johnson,and mother of Edna Eugene.

She was also the daughter of the late Philip Sr. and Gertrude Duhe Rogersand sister of Evelyn Delone, Shirley Ross and Alvin Jones Sr., Phillip Jr. andWillie Rogers Sr.

Services are today at noon at St. Mark Baptist Church, Mt. Airy, withinterment at Zion Travelers Cemetery, Lions. Visitation begins at 8:30 a.m.

JUMPIERRE NEW ORLEANS – Edward Jumpierre, 79, a native of Vacherie and resident of New Orleans for many years, died June 30. He was the father of ZaydellClark, Sandra Coleman, Cheryl Williams, Mary and Yvette Jumpierre and William and Donald Sonia.

He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services were July 6 at Greater Rose Baptist Church, New Orleans, with interment at Providence Memorial Park Cemetery.

MONTERO NEW ORLEANS – Hazel “Maw-Maw” Matherne Montero, 92, a native of Lutcher and resident of Destrehan for 10 years, died July 4. She was the wife of thelate Henry Montero and mother of Carmen Flippen and Ramona Whittington.

She was also the daughter of the late Leon Sr. and Eve Bodin Matherne andsister of the late Adam and Leon Matherne Jr.

She is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services were July 7 in the chapel of P.J. McMahon and Sons Funeral Home,New Orleans, with interment at Garden of Memories.

QUIGLEY LAPLACE – Edith W. “Dee Dee” Quigley, 71, a native of New London, Ct. andresident of LaPlace for 23 years, died July 2. She was the wife of AlvinQuigley and mother of Loretta Quigley.

She was also the daughter of George and Daisy Bradfield Will and sister of Pamela Carlton, John Adkinson and Richard, William and Gerald Will.

Services were July 6 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, LaPlace, withinterment at St. John Memorial Gardens, LaPlace.

ROYAL KENNER – Lee “Buster” Royal Sr., 81, a native of Liberty, Miss. and residentof St. Rose for 40 years, died July 2. He was the husband of Annie MaeWilson Royal and father of Mary Ann Wright, Willie Alma Jackson, Josephine McClendon, Bernice Augillard, Shirley Taylor and Owen Royal Sr.

He was also the brother of Pearl Harrell and Bernice and Emmitt Royal.

He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Baptist Church, Kenner, withinterment at the church cemetery.

SMITH NORCO – Marie Haydel Smith, 88, a native of Taft, former resident of Abita Springs and resident of Norco, died July 6. She was the wife of George B.Smith and mother of Meridel Scallan, Judy Miller, Aline Favor and George Smith Jr.

She was also the sister of the late Elma Dufresne, Eli Haydel, Etta Oliphant and Donald Haydel.

She is also survived by 32 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services are today at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Norco, withinterment at St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum, Destrehan. Visitation beginsat 8 a.m.

STEIB ST. JAMES – Virginia Jackson Steib, 59, a native and resident of St. James,died July 4. She was the wife of Raymond Steib and mother of Antoinetta,Fanchonette, Antonio and Angelo Steib.

She was also the daughter of the late Dolman and Maude Jackson and sister of Shirley Ray, Rose Ann Bottley, Elsie Jackson, Maude and Angela Cayette and Dolman Jackson Jr.

She is also survived by four grandchildren.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, St. James.Visitation starts at 8 a.m.
