RILEY NAMED STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Lutcher graduate Toni Tiley was recently selected as the Student-Athlete of the Week by SchoolSports.com. Riley played softball and volleyball for the Lady Bulldogs and was an honorable mention All-Academic selection in both sports with a 3.76 grade pointaverage. She has been selected to play in the Louisiana High School CoachesAssociation’s All-Star doubleheader in Baton Rouge June 10 along with St.
Charles Catholic’s Jessie Zeringue.
Riley was the third local athlete to be honored by SchoolSports.com thisspring. Kim Bierman of Destrehan was selected as the softball player of theweek in April and Coy Miller of West St. John was earlier selected as theathlete of the week.
R.J.’S HOSTING FIGHTS – R.J.’s Lounge in LaPlace is hosting Pancrase andNo-Holds Barred fights Saturday, June 10.
Fighters scheduled to appear arte pro cage fighters Raymond Totorico, Aristides Brito, Joe Namath and Chris Seifert. Local cage fighter LanceClements is scheduled to fight as is Shakir Waters of LaPlace.
Others scheduled to appear are Mike Prince, John Accordo and Jered Schopfer of Metairie, Jeremy Wolff of Covington and Shannon Berry of Slidell.
Doors open at 7 p.m., the show starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 advancegeneral admission, $20 ringside and $30 gold ringside.

LUQUET TAKES OVER AT ST. JAMES – Former Walker High Schoolbaseball coach and St. Charles Parish assistant recreation director MartyLouqet has been named the new head baseball coach at St. James.Louqet coached at Walker from 1983-1991, compiling a 118-70 record.
Walker won seven district titles during that time and made the postseason nine times.
Louquet takes over for Davey Clement who recently became the head baseball coach at Riverside.
WAGUESPACK TO HEAD UP COMETS – St. Charles Catholic recentlynamed Paul Waguespack as head baseball coach.
Waguespack will coach St. Charles Catholic’s American Legion team (CretinHomes) this summer. Waguespack, the assistant baseball coach for theComets, takes over for Frank Monica who resigned. Monica will remain thehead football coach.
GUIDRY SAVES LSU’S VICTORY – Hahnville graduate Weylin Guidry retired the final two batters of the game to save LSU’s 5-3 Regional victory over Louisiana-Monroe Sunday.
Guidry came in with a runner on and one out and struck out Joe Jenson and got Scott Cadwallader to ground into a force out at second to pick up his sixth save of the season.
