EDGARD – Newman rallied in the track events to snap Riverside’s 10-year district winning streak at the District 9-2A track and field meet Wednesday afternoon at West St. John.Newman finished with 156 points. Riverside, which had won 10 straightdistrict titles, was second with 114 points, followed by Ridgewood with 87.

Fisher was fourth with 81 points with West St. John fifth with 39.Leslie Feingerts led the way for Newman with a victory in the 400 meters and a second place finish in the 100 in being named the meet’s outstanding track performer. She also helped the 400 and 1,600-meter relay teams todistrict titles.

Newman also got first place finishes in track from Lucey Rafferty in the 1,600 meters, Lauren Jacobs in the 800 and Jannie Moreau in the 3,200 meters.

Riverside was led by Brandi Falgoust in the discus and Nicole Lambert in the javelin during the field events. Falgoust won the discus with a throw of 93feet, nine inches. Teammate Katie Lehrmann was third with her throw of 86-3.5. Lambert took the district title in the javelin with a throw of 99-9. TheLady Rebels’ Kelly Louque took third with a throw of 94-2.

Heather Montz of Riverside was second in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 7-0. Newman’s Katie Cameron took the event with a vault of 7-6. TheGreenies also got a first place finish in the triple jump from Piper Lanier with a jump of 34-10.5. West St. John’s Kita Harry was fourth with her jump of30-8.

West St. John’s Oneka Lewis won the district title in the shot put with athrow of 33-8. Riverside’s Heidi Richard was fourth at 29-1. The Lady Ramsalso got a third-place finish in the high jump from Ciarra Borne who jumped 4- 10. Fisher’s Amanda Potter was first with a jump of 4-10 with the fewestattempts. Riverside’s Jennifer Smith was fourth at 4-6.Fisher’s Jade Vincent was first in the long jump with a jump of 17-5 and shared outstanding field honors with Lanier of Newman.

Riverside’s Jennifer Guidry took district honors in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 17.91. Jamie Johnson was second in the 800 in a time of 2:42.39.The Lady Rebels captured the 800-meter relay in 1:53.87 and placed secondin the 400 and third in the 1,600 meters.

West St. John’s Rita Baker was third in the 100 meters. Buras’ Zada Jacksontook the event in 12.83.The top three finishers in each event advance to the Class 2A, Region III meet at West St. John Wednesday.
