ABATE KENNERJoseph S. Abate, 84, a native of Boutte and resident of St. Rosefor 82 years, died March 10. He was the husband of Beatrice Weber Abateand father of Rose Mary Duhe, Sheila Marino and the late Joseph Abate Jr.
He was also the son of the late Peter and Rosa Digirolamo Abate and brother of Nora Lemoine, Mary Desimone, Sam and Peter Abate and the late Vincent, Nick and Phillip Abate.
He is also survived by eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services were held March 13 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Kenner, with interment at St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery,Destrehan.
BOYER RACELANDClaude Joseph Boyer, 68, a native of Paradis and resident of Boutte, died March 12. He was the son of the late Oliver Sr. and ThomasineDufrene Boyer and brother of Dorothy Benoit, Oliver Boyer Jr. and the lateAgnes Legendre, Mary Durham and Wilfred Boyer.
Services were held March 14 in the chapel of Falgout Funeral Home, Raceland, with interment at St. Mary Cemetery, Raceland.BROWN HAMMONDFestus Jerald Brown, 75, a native of Loranger and resident of St. Rose, died March 5. He was the former husband of Victoria Martinez andfather of Peggy Barbier and Mary, Warren and Richard Brown.
He was also the son of the late Festus and Mary Boudreaux Brown and brother of Florence, Wallace, Donald and the late Huey Brown.
He is also survived by three grandchildren.
Services were held March 14 in the chapel of Geisler Funeral Home, Hammond, with interment at Husser Catholic Church Cemetery, Husser.
BUTLER PARADISRachel Stewart Butler, 94, a native of Gheens and resident of Paradis for 48 years, died March 5. She was the mother of Irma White.She was also the sister of Joseph Anderson Sr.
She is also survived by three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held March 11 at First Baptist Church, Paradis, with interment at the church cemetery.
CESSAC LAPLACEKarl D. Cessac, 63, a native of Texas and resident of LaPlace,died March 11. He was the father of Danny, Davey and Anita Cessac.He was also the son of Bethel Myers and the late Dupree Cessac and brother of Freddy and Dwayne Cessac.
He is also survived by four grandchildren.
Services are today at 10 a.m. at Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, withinterment at Ester Cemetery, Ester. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.DICKEY KENNERErnest “Bubba” “Junkman” Dickey, 72, a native of New Orleans and resident of New Sarpy for 33 years, died March 12. He was the husbandof Johnnie “Deanie” Dickey, father of Debra Gross and foster-father of Marion Franklin.
He was also the brother of Shirley and Grace Johnson.
He is also survived by three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held March 11 in the chapel of Richardson Funeral Home, Kenner, with interment at Providence Memorial Park.
OUBRE VACHERIESidney Peter Oubre, 50, a native and resident of Vacherie, died March 9. He was the father of Hope Becnel.He was also the son of Grace Oubre and the late Edwin Oubre and brother of Jo Anne Bourgeois, Wanda Bellow, Laurie Granier and Eric and Nathan Oubre.
He is also survived by one grandchild.
Services were held March 13 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Vacherie, with interment at the church cemetery.
POPULUS VACHERIEHamilton “Chine” Populus, 81, a native and resident of Wallace, died March 10. He was the husband of Grace Alexis Populus andfather of Gloria Keller, Harriett Banner and the late Verdell Populus.
He was also the son of the late Victor and Cordelia Brown Populus and brother of Rose Bastian, Lydia Bastian, Marjorie Oubre, Daniel Populus and the late Nola Francis, Margaret Goraspe and Anthony and Haywood Populus.
He is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services are today at 10:30 a.m. at St. Phillip Catholic Church, Vacherie,with interment at the church mausoleum. Visitation starts at 8 a.m. SIMON LAPLACEHenrietta Dennis Simon, 80, a native of St. James Parish andresident of Reserve, died March 9. She was the wife of the late LawrenceSimon Sr. and mother of Lawrence Jr. and Curtis Simon Sr. and the lateEula Mae Hodges and Eulis Sr. and Clarence Simon Sr.She was also the daughter of the late Rev. James Sr. and Charlotte Dennis and sister of Alice Brown, Cora Lee Mitchell, Charlotte Celestine, Janie Campbell, Sarah Randle, Shirley and James Dennis Jr. and the late GladyJarrow and Christopher and Irvin Dennis.
She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Services were held March 14 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, LaPlace, withinterment at Providence Cemetery, LaPlace.
STEWART DONALDSONVILLEJimmy Walsh Stewart, 55, a native and resident of St.
James, died March 11. He was the son of the late Walsh and Doretha ColarStewart.
He was also the brother of Elouise Garrison, Alice Louis, Dora Stewart, Dorothy and Eula Green, Robert, Cleveland and Noman Stewart and the late Percy Dixon and Joyce, Alfred and Melvin Stewart.
Services were held March 14 at Brazier-Watson Funeral Home, Donaldsonville with interment at Buena Vista Baptist Church Cemetery, St. James.
