Relay for Life teams being organized

LAPLACE – Bobbie Zaidain, chair for St. John Relay for Life, recentlyannounced the annual fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society will be May 6 and 7. The event will be held at Joe Keller Stadium.The 12-hour all-night event is expected to raise over $60,000 to help in the battle against cancer. Zaidain expects over 500 participants for the relay.Participants will camp over night and conduct games as well as celebrate life with cancer survivors.
Some of this year’s participants already include Riverside Academy with four teams, Garyville Magnet School with two teams, Louisiana Federal Credit Union with two teams, River Parishes Hospital, Union Planters Bank, Gold Eagle Security, East St. John High School, LifeCare Hospital and the SugarQueen Pageant. Families, businesses, churches or any group or associationwanting to support the American Cancer Society may sponsor teams.
If you or your organization would like more information about entering or sponsoring a team from the 2000 Relay for Life, call Zaidain at 652-5672.
The only qualification for participation is the willingness to support the American Cancer Society.
Last year’s participants enjoyed the party atmosphere created by the games, good, entertainment and the camaraderie of fellow campers. Thetheme for this year’s Relay for Life is “Relay Goes Around the World.” Thisis an appropriate theme, as the Relay for Life events are now being duplicated around the globe.
