GET HIGH ON LIFE

As I was leaving a drug rehabilitation center a few days ago, I asked one of the clients who was being discharged in a couple of days how he was doing.

“Not good,” he answered.

I tried to encourage him and said, “I really think you will be OK.” ‘Not me,” he said. “I’ll never be OK.” He was one of the most miserablepersons that I have ever met.

“What’s the problem?” I asked.

He was a bit hesitant, but confessed that he was gay.

“What a coincidence!” I said. “I am, too!” He was shocked until I explainedthat by gay, I meant that I was happy, merry, and had some joy.

“I’m homosexual,” he said. (Of course, I knew what he meant when he saidthat he was gay.) “You don’t seem so excited about your lifestyle,” I said. Ithen noticed that he was holding a Bible.

He raised his Bible and said, “Everything I read in here says that homosexuality is wrong. It’s a sin!” “What do you think?” I questioned. “I think it’s not a choice,” he answered.”I believe that we are born like that.” “If you really believe that, you wouldn’t be so sad,” I told him.

“My life has been so screwed up since I’m three years old,” he voluntarily told me. “I was sexually abused by my brothers and a neighbor at that age.My father, who was always a macho man, just found out about my problem, and he went crazy.” “What kind of man is your father?” I asked.

“Drinks quite a bit and ever since I can remember, we always had a lot of pornography around the house. In fact, pornography seemed normal for ourfamily.”We finally got back to his problem. I assured him that I wouldn’t preach tohim because I thought God could do a better job of convincing him what was right and wrong.

I suggested that he ask God to reveal Himself to him in a personal way and convict him of the truth. I also told him that the Word of God was eitherblack or white. He loves us too much to allow any gray areas, when rightand wrong are concerned. I told him that I believed the Bible and considerit all inspired by God.

Does everyone have to believe like I do? No.

Like homosexuality and any other sin, we have a choice. We all have a freewill.

The sad part about the word “gay,” is that society has taken a positive word to describe a lifestyle that is an abomination to God.

Yes, God hates the sin of homosexuality, just as much as He hates the sin of drunkenness, adultery, greed, gluttony, lust, anger and pride. In fact, Hehates all sins, but loves the sinner.

As I left the young man, I felt so helpless. I wanted so much to be able tofree him from his bondage. I was then reminded that my mission is to onlycarry the message. It’s up to each individual to either receive or rejectthe truth of the Scriptures.
