NORCO – Three sailors from a ship docked at Shell/Motiva were beaten and robbed of $30, the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office reported. The sailors, each 57, were Americans and provided a description of the two black males who attacked them on the levee at 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 23.Lt. Dwayne LaGrange said the men were walking back from a River Roadbar almost across from their ship when the two men attacked them, beating them with 3×6 pieces of wood.

A Florida man was struck in the back of the head, and a New York man was hit on the right side of the face. A Gray, La., man was knocked unconscious, barely aware as his wallet was taken.

The attackers only got $30 for their trouble, LaGrange said, adding, “We tell them to exercise caution when walking back and forth to the ships, especially at night.”Sailors are frequent targets for muggings throughout the port area, foreign sailors unable to communicate with police being specially targeted, LaGrange said.
