ALEXANDER EDGARD – Sidney Alexander Sr., 87, a native and resident of Edgard, diedDec. 21. He was the husband of Cecile Bailey Alexander and father of MazieBastian, Earline Johnson, Jean Dillon, Barbara Rainey, Donna Alexander and the late Herbert Sr. and Sidney Alexander Jr.He was also the son of the late Lucille Samuel and Willie Alexander and the brother of Nolia Alexander and the late Mary Alexander and Fredrick Luper.
He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Dec. 28 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard,with interment at the church cemetery.
SR. ANGELINELOS ALTOS HILLS, Calif. – Sister Angeline DC (Ida Frederic), 92, a native ofPaulina and resident of Los Altos Hills, died Dec. 24. She was the daughterof the late Optime and Elodie Dupuis Frederic and sister of the late Martha Duhe, Noela Schexnayder, Stella Haguet and Bridget, George and Joseph Frederic.
She served 71 years as a Sister of Charity, 60 of those years as a teacher in California, Missouri, Utah, Texas and Maryland.
Services were held Dec. 27 at Laboure Residence with interment at Gate ofHeaven Cemetery, Los Altos Hill.
BANQUER PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – Juliet M. Banquer, 73, a native of the Crevasse areaof LaPlace, former resident of Norco and resident of Port St. Lucie for 13years, died Dec. 22. She was the mother of Gwen Banquer.She was also the sister of Julie Vicknair of Montz, Loretta Wilson of Norco and Helen Gaudet of LaPlace.
She is also survived by four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Dec. 27 in the chapel of Aycock Funeral Home,Port St. Lucie.
BECNEL ALGIERS – Martha Laurent Becnel, 87, a native of Edgard and resident of Algiers for 68 years, died Dec. 25. She was the wife of Fabien J. Becnel Sr.and mother of Lorraine Bryant, Fabien Jr., Warren and Wayne Becnel andthe late Norma Habighorst.
She was also the daughter of the late Leopold and Elodie Hymel Laurent and sister of Therese Counts, Elodie McPherson, Roger Laurent and the late Stephen, Raleigh, Maurice and Leonce Laurent.
She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Dec. 28 at St. Julien Catholic Church, Algiers, withinterment at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
BROWN NORCO – Rufus Joseph “Red R.J.” Brown, 77, a native of Carson andresident of St. Rose for 42 years, died Dec. 27. He was the husband of 49years of Audie Louise Hall Brown and father of Barbara Savoy, Denise “Renee” Kimble and Paul Sr., Curtis Sr., David, Robert and the late MaryEllen Brown.
He was also the son of the late Wilburn and Leona Brown and brother of Artis Brown, Raymond Pruett, Louise Pichard and the late Carl Pruett.
He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Services are today at noon in the chapel of H.C. Alexander Funeral Home,Norco, with interment at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, St. Rose. Visitationstarts at 9 a.m.
EDWARDS NEW ORLEANS – Jessie Edwards Jr., 75, a native of Vacherie and residentof New Orleans, died Dec. 20. He was the husband of Evelyn C. Edwards andfather of Spencer Carter and Clarence, Harold and Jessie Edwards III.
He was also the son of the late Jessie Sr. and Sylvia Stewart Edwards andbrother of Edith Johnson and Larry and Harry Sorrell Sr. He was precededin death by four sisters and three brothers.
He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were held Dec. 27 in the chapel of D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, NewOrleans, with interment at St. Louis Cemetery No. 3.
HOTARD NORCO – Edmond “Sue” Nicholas Hotard, 74, a native and resident of Norco, died Dec. 26. He was the husband of Delora Morvant Hotard and father ofMary Becnel, Jan Stevens, Susan Stephen and Robert, Bruce, Dean and Alan Hotard.
He was also the son of the late George and Robertine Minvielle Hotard and brother of Denise Nevils, Lucy Nevils, Betty Hafbesbring, Gertrude, George Jr. and Felix Hotard and the late Robert and Daniel Hotard.He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was a Shell Oil retiree after 40 years of service.
Services were held Dec. 28 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church,Norco, with interment at St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum, Destrehan.
JACKSON LAPLACE – Mable Lee M. Jackson, 69, a native and resident of LaPlace, diedDec. 22. She was the wife of Eddie Jackson Jr. and mother of MablelineEmanuel, Vernon, Ronnie, Laverne, Letrel, Pernell, Kermit, Eddie III and Shannon Jackson and the late Silvester Perrilloux.
She is also survived by a host of grandchildren.
Services were held Dec. 28 at Greater Morning Star Baptist Church,LaPlace, with private interment.
MITCHELL NEW ORLEANS – James Coleman Mitchell, 40, a native of New Orleans and resident of Ama for 35 years, died Dec. 25. He was the father of Jadonna,Ja’meika, Joyce, Jamie, Jasmine, Janel and Jante Mitchell.
He was also the brother of Elizabeth Minor, Angeline Singelton, Andrew Martindale Jr. and Richard Mitchell Jr.Services were held Dec. 28 in the chapel of Gaskin-Tilly Mortuary, NewOrleans, with interment at Mary Flower Cemetery, Ama. Visitation startsat 8 a.m.
ROBERT HARVEY – Herbert D. Robert, 84, a native of Ama and resident of Harvey for55 years, died Dec. 23. He was the husband of Felicie Michell Robert andfather of Patricia, Richard and Herbert Robert and the late Vivian Faucheux and Norbert, Luke, Mable and Althea Robert.
He was also the son of the late Louis and Odalie Hymel Robert and brother of Anaise Gonzales and Lawrence and Lucien Robert.
He is also survived by four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held Dec. 27 at St. Rosalie Catholic Church, Harvey, withinterment at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
RODRIGUE LAPLACE – Pearl Bruno Rodrigue, 67, a native and resident of LaPlace, died Dec. 27. She was the wife of Francis Rodrigue Sr. and mother of Sue Burnsand Kim, Ralsar, Penny, Forbes, Francis Jr., Louis, Terry and ScottRodrigue.
She was also the daughter of the late Charles Sr. and Noelie Bruno andsister of Alice Forbes, Charles Sr., Robert, Paul and Warren Bruno and thelate Betty Aucoin, Sarah Dufrene, Gloria Freege and Mary Owens.
She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services are today at 10 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, LaPlace,with interment at St. John Memorial Cemetery, LaPlace. Visitation startsat 8 a.m.
VICKNAIR RESERVE – Delia Marie Tamplain Vicknair, 88, a native of Lucy, former resident of Reserve and resident of LaPlace for 23 years, died Dec. 25. Shewas the wife of Fortune Vicknair and mother of Nelda Coquyt and Warren and Robert “Leroy” Vicknair.
She was also the daughter of the late Louis and Josephine Monquidit Tamplain and sister of Esther Waguespack, Joyce Bourgeois, Louis, Daniel and E.J. Tamplain and the late Nettie Atkins and Harry Tamplain.She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and numerous great- grandchildren.
Services were held Dec. 28 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Reserve, withinterment at the church cemetery.
WILLIAMS LUTCHER – Joe “Rooster” Williams, 87, a native of Slaughter and resident of Lutcher, died Dec. 26. He was the husband of the late Sedonia Williamsand father of Elizabeth Vannor, Lanell Etienne, Lynn Smith, Joseph Smith, Freddie Williams and the late Marie Sholts and Arthur Williams.
He is also survived by 41 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at St. Joe Baptist Church, Lutcher, withinterment at Western Cemetery, Lutcher. Visitation starts at 9:30 a.m.
