Local teams get wins at Rebel Classic

RESERVE – The Year 2000 is four days later but the West St. John Ramsdecided Monday to get an early start on breaking the century mark.

Four West St. John players were in double figures as the Rams cruised to a100-72 victory over Grand Isle at the Riverside Holiday Classic Monday.

West St. John advanced to the second round where it played St. CharlesCatholic, a 76-58 winner over Crescent City Monday.

Marlon Jackson led the Rams with 24 points. Donriel Louis and Brian Lumareach chipped in with 20 points while Jeremy Lumar contributed 15 points.

West St. John (5-2) led 30-19 at the end of the first quarter and took a48-41 advantage into halftime.

St. Charles Catholic (7-1) jumped out to a 44-18 lead at the break in itsgame and held off Crescent City in the second half.

Daress Nicholas led the Comets with 15 points. Steven Washington added14 points and Abner Sanders 13.

Host Riverside (5-6) broke open a 24-all tie at halftime to defeat Ridgewood, 70-56, Monday night. The Rebels led 44-40 at the end of thethird quarter.

Craig Tearney led the way for the Rebels with 17 points. Joel Levin added12 and Tim Brignac, Michael Schoen and Damian Melancon 10 apiece.

The Rebels met St. James in the second round Tuesday night. The Wildcats(5-3) pulled away in the second half for an 81-63 win over Family Christian Monday afternoon.

Corey Webster had 28 points for the Wildcats and Claudell Parker added 14.
