K-9’s assist in arrests of 2 robbery suspects

LAPLACE- Thanks to the St. John Parish Sheriff’s K-9 Division, two menare in custody and charged with attempted armed robbery.
Early Friday morning at 3:00, the Sheriff’s Office received a call from Smokey and Margaret’s Bar at 1075 E. Airline Highway saying that the barwas being robbed.
Deputies arrived on the scene at 3:04 a.m. to find a hysterical bar workerwho told them that two armed masked men had just left the bar and ran across the highway into the woods.
Deputy Jeremy Mintz and K-9 Deputy Keith Brooks with his dog, Boy ran after the suspects and could hear them crashing through the woods.
Brooks then yelled at the suspects to come out or he would let his dog go in after them.
At 3:07 a.m. one of the suspects came out of the woods and surrendered topolice.
Brooks released Boy to go find the other suspect, and at 3:10 a.m. thesecond suspect was brought out by the dog.
“He came out of the woods with the dog hanging on his arm,” reported Capt.
Mike Tregre, spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office.
Arrested were Brandon Boe, 17, of 180 Kathy Drive in LaPlace and Curtis Allen, 19, 1624 Jefferson, LaPlace. Both suspects have been charged withattempted armed robbery.
The investigation is still ongoing and police are searching the woods for the suspect’s weapons and masks.
