The West St. John Booster Club will announce advertisements forlocal candidates at Rams home football games this season.

The advertisement will be announced twice during the games for $50 per game. The advertisement should be prepared with 20 words or less and besubmitted to the booster club by the Tuesday prior to the game.

The St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office is sponsoring several huntersafety classes this fall. Classes will be held at the St. John ParishSheriff’s Office, Division Headquarters Squad Room, located at Deputy Barton Granier Drive in LaPlace.

Class times will be from 5:30-9:15 p.m. Saturday’s class will begin at 8a.m. at Nick’s Shooting Range in Garyville. The next classes are Nov. 16-18and 20.

There is no charge for these classes. Registration is mandatory. Minimumage is 10 years old. Participants must attend each day for certification.Please call 652-9513 or 652-7058 to register or if you have any questions.

The Lutcher Quarterback Club will meet every Tuesday at 7 p.m. at thePublic Relations Building across from the high school.

The St. Charles Catholic Quarterback Club will meet every Tuesdaynight in the school cafeteria. Next week’s guest speaker will be Ro Brown,WDSU-6 Sports.

The Riverside Quarterback Club will meet every Wednesday at 7 p.m.In the school cafeteria.

The St. John United Way will host its first annual golf tournament onMonday at Riverlands Country Club.

The tournament will have an 8 a.m. round and a 1:30 p.m. round. You can help support the St. John United Way by being a golf participantfor $100; sponsoring a hole for $100 each; sponsoring a team for $400; or donating door prizes. All contributions are tax deductible and all proceedsbenefit the St. John United Way campaign.To participate in the tournament, call Lenie Laiche at 535-7189.

For the 10th consecutive year, mall-based athletic specialty retailer Footaction USA is offering $100,000 in college scholarships to high school seniors. This year, Footaction will award at least 84 scholarships,including one at $10,000, one at $5,000, two at $2,500 and 80 at $1,000.

The deadline for applications is January 15, 2000.

Applicants are judged on the basis of financial need, class rank and standardized test scores and level of sports participation. A group of 300semifinalists will be selected by an independent administrator.

Semifianlists will be required to complete a more detailed application and submit additional information, including a 250-word essay.

Special Olympics Louisiana’s new “Share the Victory” motor vehicle recycling program allows anyone in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, St. Tammany and St. Charles parishes to turn extra or unwantedvehicles into “something special for Special Olympics.”An individual can call the “Share the Victory” toll-free number and Special Olympics will arrange to tow away their motor vehicle for free.

The vehicle will be recycled into the funds needed to support the year- round program of sports training and athletic competition for mentally- retarded children and adults in Louisiana.

Vehicles can be in any condition to qualify as long as the owner has the title. Consumers may also be able to take advantage of a tax deduction asthe fair market price of the vehicle is considered a tax deductible donation to Special Olympics.
