Gauthier contributes four scores in Rams win

HOUMA – Carl Gauthier passed for three touchdowns and ran for another to lead West St. John to a 27-6 victory at Ellender Friday night.West St. John improved to 2-0 on the season while Ellender fell to 0-2.The Rams, ranked No. 1 in the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’sClass 2A poll this week, opened the scoring in the first quarter as Gauthier found Brian Lumar on a 50-yard scoring strike. Lumar kicked theextra point, giving the Rams a 7-0 lead.
West St. John made it 13-0 before the opening quarter closed as Gauthierconnected with Jeremy Lumar on a 62-yard pass. Gauthier added a 23-yardtouchdown run to make it 19-0 at the break.
Amone Lumar would take in a Gauthier pass for 6 yards and score in the third quarter. That combination would click again for the two-pointconversion, making it 27-0 at the end of the third quarter.
Ellender would get on the board in the fourth quarter as Billy Fitzpatrick threw to Shaun Verdin from 13 yards out.
Gauthier finished with 10 completions in 12 attempts for 171 yards and also rushed for 55 yards on six attempts. Brian Lumar caught five passesfor 80 yards while Jeremy Lumar added two for 69. The Rams had 446total yards in the game.
Lutcher 35, Vandebilt 8
LUTCHER – Damian Ursin scored twice and Lutcher got scores by both its defense and special teams to defeat Vandebilt Catholic, 35-8, Friday night.
Lutcher improved to 2-0 on the season while Vandebilt fell to 0-2.
Ursin scored on runs of 55 yards and 2 yards in the game, finishing with 125 yards on 13 carries. Bernard Riley ran an interception back for atouchdown and also returned a blocked punt for a score.
Lutcher out-gained Vande-bilt, 230 to 151, in total offense.
Vandebilt actually ran more plays and held the ball for seven minutes more than the Bullfogs.
Lutcher travels to Baton Rouge to play Capitol next week.
