Hennig wins top model award

DESTREHAN – St. Charles Parish resident Shelley Hennig was crowned theStar Systems National Model of the Year.
She competed at the New Orleans preliminary last December at the St.
Bernard Civic Center. Hennig has received a platinum placement and wonthe New Orleans Top Model, qualifying her for the Myrtle Beach Nationals.
On July 18 Hennig competed against 35 other models from across the United States. She performed a sportswear routine to “Walking on theSunshine,” which was choreographed by Duanne Cazalot of Dance Unlimited. She won her age category and was named the Overall NationalModel of the Year, receiving the only platinum award given in 12 and under modeling competition.
“I am so proud of Shelley,” Cazalot said. “Through the years, Shelley hascontinued to win top honors on the state level, but this is the first time she pulled it all together to win the national title. I couldn’t be happierfor her. She really worked hard and it finally paid off.”Hennig is the 12-year-old daughter of Cathy and Glenn Hennig of Destrehan. She is a 10-year graduate of Dance Unlimited, where shestudies all forms of dance and modeling.
