Hospital opens new clinic to serve business, industry sector

LAPLACE – River Parishes Hospital has announced the opening of a new clinic in the Medical Office Building at 502 Rue de Sante. The clinic willfocus on serving the industry and business sector of the community.
Everything from pre-employment physicals, travel medicine and drug screens to injuries and after injury care will be offered. The scope of theclinic is to be accessible to the business clients of the hospital, providing them with services as well as information about their employees’ health in a timely fashion.
Separating this section of business into a separate clinic should not only help those clients, but also help expedite services to individual patients who are utilizing the hospital service areas.
Dr. Michael Ballard was hired as the medical director of the clinic, alongwith a nurse case manager. Dr. Ballard comes to River Parishes Hospitalwith much experience in the occupational medicine arena. Most recently,he served as the director of clinical services for AEA-Freeport Medical Services at Freeport McMoRan’s gold and copper mine in Irian Jaya, Indonesia.
Prior to this he served as co-director of the Tulane Travel Medicine Clinic and also as medical director of employee health at Tulane University Medical Center as a clinical assistant professor in the division of general internal medicine/primary care.
He still remains an adjunct faculty member in the department of community health sciences at the Tulane School of Public Health.
