Gymnastics takes flight in LaPlace

Ivanov’s Gymnastics Academy is hosting an open house on June 27 prior to the grand opening of the facility in July.

The open house will be held from 2-6 p.m. at IGA at 212 Woodland Drive,Suite G, in LaPlace.

Children interested in getting a firsthand look at the new gymnasium and their parents are invited to attend the Open House.

Owners of IGA are Russian gymnasts Anatoly Ivanov and Larisa Ivanova.

The pair is currently registering students for recreational and competitive artistics gymnastics classes to be held at the state-of-the- art gymnasium.

The Ivanovs come to LaPlace with more than 25 years of experience in the competitive gymnastics arena, both in Russia and the United States. Bothwere trained in the USSR where both competed as elite gymnasts internationally. Anatoly Ivanov”s experience includes performing withthe famed Moscow Circus. He was also a trainer for 1988 Women”sOlympic Gymnastics Gold Medal Winner Shushunova.

Larisa Ivanova was national champion of Moldova four times and as a coach trained numbers of children to the elite level in competitive gymnastics.

Since moving to the United States five years ago, the couple coached at Riverbend Gymnastics in New Orleans before deciding to open their own gymnastics academy.

Classes will begin July 1 for children aged three and up. Recreationalclasses as well as team classes for children interested in competition in the USGA will be available. IGA will also offer private classes onSaturdays and Sundays. All coaches are safety certified.From July 1 – August 13, IGA will hold a gymnastics training summer camp from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. each day with daily or weekly rates available. The camp is opened to children aged 5 to 12. Before and after care will be available.
