School board Oks Cancienne’s contract

LUTCHER – The new St. James Parish Schools superintendent begins workJuly 1 with a four-year contract.
The contract for P. Edward Cancienne, hired in April to lead the schoolsystem into the new millenium, was approved by a 6-1 vote of the St.
James Parish School Board Tuesday night.
Board member Willis Octave cast the dissenting vote for the contract, saying he believes the salary of $96,134 a year is too high.
The contract was negotiated by board members Lloyd LeBlanc and Charles Nailor and board president Kenneth Foret.
