BLUAIN GARYVILLE Lloyd “Matt” Bluain Jr., 56, a native of Garyville and aresident of New Orleans, died April 30. He was the father of Donell, Keithand Eldred Bluain.
He was also the son of the late Lloyd Sr. and Mary Picou Bluain.He is also survived by nine grandchildren.
Services were Saturday in the chapel of Earl Baloney & Sons Mortuary, Garyville, with interment at Phillipian Cemetery, Convent.
JACKSON NEW SARPY Alice B. Jackson, 81, a native and resident of New Sarpy,died April 29. She was the wife of the late Willie Jackson and mother ofJohn Forkner.
She was also the daughter of the late Carrie Carter and Godfrey Bailey and sister of Celina Mackie, Carrie Lee Bailey and the late Clara Roiach and Sidney Bailey.
She is also survived by four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, six step-grandchildren, 15 step-great- grandchildren, three step-great-great-grandchildren and five step-great- great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held May 6 at St. Matthew Baptist Church, New Sarpy, withinterment at Little Rock Cemetery, Slaughter.
JENNINGS NEW ORLEANS Minnie “Mimi” Jennings, 87, a native of New Orleans and resident of Luling for 14 years, died May 4. She was the mother of JoyceTusa and Jacquelin Dawley and step-mother of James Earl Jennings Jr.
She is also survived by nine grandchildrren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were held May 7 in the chapel of Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, New Orleans, with interment at St. Joseph Cemetery No. 1.LaGRANGE EDGARD Lucille “Miss Lee-Lee” August LaGrange, 82, a native and resident of Lucy, died May 5. She was the wife of the late FreddieLaGrange and mother of Margaret Lay, Fabiola Louis and the Rev. AllenLaGrange Sr.
She was also the daughter of the late August and Anna August and sister of Augustine August and the late Menola LaGrange and Clifford August.
She is also survived by 28 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services were Saturday at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, Edgard, with interment at St. John the Baptist cemetery, Edgard.Visitation starts at 9 a.m.MONTZ METAIRIE Louise “Weezie” Sellers Montz, 87, a native and resident of Ama, died May 6. She was the mother of Louise Leaber, Lynn Milmine andMatthew Montz.
She was also the sister of Hicks Sellers and the late Emma Mae Clessi, Francis Meric and John and Thomas Sellers Jr.
She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and predeceased by one grandchild.
Services were Saturday in the chapel of Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, Metairie, with interment at the Sellers Family Cemetery, Ama.
PFISTER METAIRIE Zorie Laiche Pfister, 79, a native of Garyville and a resident of Metairie, died May 4. She was the wife of the late James Pfister andmother of Violet Ann Pfister.
She was also the daughter of the late Stephen and Syndodie Gregoire Laiche and sister of Myrtis “Jeri” Nims and the late Betty Parent, Gladys Picou, Philomina Penn and Charlie and Joseph Laiche.
Services were held May 6 in the chapel of Metairie Funeral Home, Metairie Cemetery, with interment at Lake Lawn Mausoleum.
POPE KENNER Ester Lether Hilliard Pope, 80, a native of Gueydan and resident of St. Rose and Kenner, died May 1. She was the wife of the late Herbert O.Pope, mother of the Rev. Roland Scott and step-mother of the Rev. RubyDurio, Audrey Lumas and Herbert Jr. and Clem Pope.She was also the sister of Grant Hilliard Sr.
She is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Services were held May 6 at Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Kenner, with interment at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, St. Rose.SMITH MARRERO Aserene “Beck” Smith, 73, a native of St. James Parish and aresident of Marrero for 33 years, died May 3. She was the wife of the lateJohnny Smith Sr. and mother of Virginia “Mary Ann” Turner, Ruby Jackson,Carol Smith, Edarine Johnson, Cassandra Jones, Vernell Sr. and Johnny Smith Jr. and the late Edward Thomas Sr. and step-mother of Anna MaeGaines.
She was also the daughter of the late Florestile and Sedonia Thomas and sister of Ester Favorite and the late Eligah Thomas, Lebora Carey, Leander Jacobs and Eula Mae Mitchell.
She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Services were held May 7 at Second Highway Baptist Church, Marrero, with interment at First Baptist Church cemetery, Vacherie.
SMITH MANDEVILLE Bryan Charles Smith, 21, a former resident of LaPlace and a resident of Natchitoches, died April 14. He was the son of Claudia Smith,formerly of LaPlace, now of New Orleans, and Rick Smith, formerly of LaPlace, now of Mandeville. He was also the brother of Kelly Smith of NewOrleans and Jeremy Smith of LaPlace.
He attended Riverside Academy through 10th grade, then the Louisiana School for Math and Sciences in Natchitoches. He then attended theUniversity of Missouri at Rolla, Mo.
Family members ask friends to make donations to the Bryan Charles Smith Memorial Fund, to honor his longtime membership in the Boy Scouts of America. Income will go to help support Troop 312 in LaPlace, where heearned his Eagle Scout rank.
