Bourgeois holds off Lady Cats

DESTREHAN – H.L. Bourgeois held off a seventh-inning rally by Destrehan todefeat the Lady Cats, 4-3, in the District 6-5A third-place playoff game Wednesday afternoon at East Bank Bridge Park.
The Lady Braves (14-17-1) clinched third place in the district and the automatic playoff spot. Bourgeois will play St. Amant in the first round.Destrehan (12-16) received a wild card bid and will travel to Grace King in the bi-district playoffs.
With one out in the top of the first, H.L. Bourgeois got a stand-up doublefrom Anna Mayers to right-center field. Shelly Rogers followed withanother double to left-center to score Mayers.
Katrina Leynon singled to put runners at the corners with two outs but Destrehan starter Kim Bierman got the next batter to leave the score at 1- 0.
Destrehan tied the score in the bottom of the inning without the benefit of a hit. Bierman walked to lead off the inning and eventually came in toscore on a passed ball.
After a single by Anna Glore, H.L. Bourgeois pitcher Lindsay Dryden retiredthe next three hitters to get out of the inning.
With one out in the top of the third, Heather Allemond went to the wall in left field for a line-drive triple. Leynon picked her up with a sacrifice flyto left to give the Lady Braves a 2-1 lead. Allison Benoit then drilled atwo-strike fastball to right field and Casey Usie walked to put runners at first and second with one out. Kitra Percle stepped in and boomed a doubleto right-center, bringing in both runners to make it 4-1.
Jennifer Eskine walked and was sacrifice to second by Bierman in the bottom of the inning. But after Glore walked, Dryden settled down toretire the next two hitters to strand the runners. Dryden also got out of atwo-out, runners at second and third situation in the fourth inning.
With one out in the fifth inning, Benoit doubled down the third base line and was sacrificed to third by Usie. Bierman then got the next batter tofly out to get out of the jam.
Neither team could mount any offense in the sixth inning and Dryden entered the seventh inning with her no-hitter intact.
With one out, Stephanie Poche broke up the no-hit bid, bouncing a single up the middle. Eskine next sent a line drive to short center field, puttingrunners at first and second.
Bierman forced a walk to load the bases for Glore. Glore also walked,bringing in pinch runner Melissa Anderson to make it 4-2. Holly Gaglianostepped up and hit a shot to second base, scoring Eskine from third and making it 4-3 with two outs. Nicole Peltier stepped up but Dryden got herto ground out to second to end the game.
