ASKIN LAPLACE Daniel Lee Askin, 65, a native of Plaquemine and a resident of Reserve, died March 21. He was the husband of Gladys Collin Askin andfather of Gerald Williams, Earl Smith, Ernest Davis, Anita James, Viola Davis, Valeria Bolden, Sheldon Davis, Pamela Perrilloux, Michael Davis, Annette Askin and the late Daniell Askin.

He was also the brother of Dorothy Bright, Irma Lee and Lillie Mae Mitchell and was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and was preceded in death by one great-grandchild.

Services were held March 27 at Church of God in Christ, LaPlace, with interment at Zion Travelers Cemetery.

BERTHELOT SORRENTO Noland T. Berthelot, 96, a native of Reserve and a resident ofSorrento, died March 29. He was the husband by first marriage of the lateNelia Schexnayder Berthelot and by second marriage of Lillian Pertuis Trabeau Berthelot.

He was the father of Audrey Becnel, Clemence Bourgeois, Sr. MarleneBerthelot, O.P., Patricia Melancon and Noland J ., Alton and BertonBerthelot and step-father of Mary Jane Rodriguez and Lois Allen.

He was also the son of the late Firmin and Clemence Vicknair Berthelot and brother of the late Lede Battard, Leonie Richard, Louise St. Amant,Lydie Mayers, Lillian Audiffred, Letha Vicknair and Firmin Berthelot.

He is also survived by 28 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, 17 step-grandchildren, 41 step-great- grandchildren and 23 step-great-great-grandchildren.

He was a retired office manager of Godchaux Sugar Refinery in Reserve.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, Sorrento, withinterment at St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve. Visitation starts at 8 a.m.BOVIE EDGARD Elizabeth “Ba-Beth” Pierre Bovie, 84, a native and resident of Edgard, died March 26. She was the wife of the late Oscar Bovie Sr. andmother of Rita Barre, Cora Lee Songy, Natalie Miller, Jeanette LaGrange, Elizabeth Ann Johnson and Melvin, Oscar and Gena Bovie.

She was also the daughter of the late Valcour and Cora Lee Pierre and sister of Angelina Foucher and Lawrence and Rufus Pierre and the late Mildred Coleman, Elnora Bailey and Steven Pierre.

She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church,Edgard, with interment at the church mausoleum. Visitation starts at 9a.m.HARRIS ST. JAMES Brittany Lynn Harris, 10, a native of St. James and a residentof Gonzales, died March 28. She was the daughter of Edward and SylviaJones Harris and sister of Neshawn, Kendell and Claudell Harris.

She was also the grandchild of Robert Mitt and the late Rose Harris Mitt and Henry and Harriet Jones.

Services were held March 30 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, St. James,with interment at the church cemetery.

HOUSTON MT. AIRY Louise “Lou” Nelson Houston, 82, a native of Mt. Airy andresident of Reserve, died March 24. She was the wife of the late VillereLevy Houston Sr. and mother of Emelda Johnson, Delores Williams andLeroy, Villere Jr., Horace and the late Herman and Levy “Sonny” Houston.She was also the daughter of the late Astoneaux and Leanna Duhe Nelson and sister of Lydia Alexis, Justine Henderson, Marcel Houston Sr. and thelate Albertine Burl and Joseph, Sidney and Chester Nelson Sr.

She is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held March 29 at St. Mark Baptist Church, Mt. Airy, withinterment at St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve. POPULIS WALLACE Freddie Populis Sr., 90, a native of Wallace and a resident ofEdgard for 30 years, died March 23. He was the father of Rosa Lee Dumas,Dorothy Williams and Leola, Claritte, Marie, Freddie Jr., Walter Sr., Davidand Tommy Populis Sr. and step-father of Betty Ann Patterson and OzemeMitchell Sr.

He was also the brother of Rose Bastian and Leola and Hamilton Populis.

He is also survived by 42 grandchildren and 57 great-grandchildren.

Services were held March 27 at Greater Woodville Baptist Church, Wallace, with interment at Woodville Cemetery.

ST. MARTIN LAPLACE Frances Ockman St. Martin, 71, a native of Vacherie and aresident of LaPlace, died March 28. She was the wife of Lloyd J. St. Martinand mother of Linda Hume, Robin Jennings and Richard, L.J. and Dave St.Martin.

She was also the daughter of the late Charles and Amy Rome Ockman and sister of Hazel Tamplain, Ruby Brignac, Anna Lee Calcagno, Marion Keating and Jamice Oncale.

She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services are today at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Millet-Guidry Funeral Home,LaPlace, with interment at St. John Memorial Gardens, LaPlace. Visitationstarts at 8 a.m.SCOTT DES ALLEMANDS Marguerite Scott, 46, a native and resident of Des Allemands, died March 25. She was the mother of Cpl. Derick, Shannon andthe late Randy Scott.

She was also the daughter of the late Harry Sr. and Dorothy Keys Scott andsister of Evelina Turner and Shirley, Ernest, Harry Jr., Lawrence Sr., IrvinSr. and Nathaniel Scott Sr.She is also survived by two grandchildren.

Services were held March 28 at Antioch Baptist Church, Des Allemands, with interment at Moses Cemetery, Thibodaux.

SMITH NORCO Cleoma T. “Auntie” Smith, 88, a native and resident of Norco, diedMarch 23. She was the wife of the late Phelem T. Smith and mother ofJanet Watson and Sandra Fernandez.

She was also the daughter of the late John and Rosa Smith.

She is also survived by five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held March 29 at Good Hope Baptist Church, Norco, with interment at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery, St. Rose. SMITH NEW ORLEANS James Smith Sr., 87, a native of Evergreen Plantation,Wallace, and a resident of New Orleans for 56 years, died March 21. Hewas the husband of Irma Dominique Smith and father of Jean Singleton and James Smith Sr.

He was also the son of the late Eli and Lizzie Taylor Smith and brother of Elnora Kelly.

He is also survived by two grandchildren and a step-grandchild.

Services were held March 27 in the chapel of D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home,New Orleans, with interment at Mt. Olivet Mausoleum.SONGY RESERVE Edmond Joseph Songy, 80, a native of St. James and a residentof Reserve, died March 28. He was the husband of Virginia Jacob Songy andfather of Kathleen Frey and Edmond Jr., Kenneth, Thomas and TimothySongy.

He was also the son of the late Justin and Palmyre Hymel Songy and brother of May Becnel, Denise Cambre, Pauline Curren, Doris Webre and the late Agnes Songy and twin sister Clarise Songy.

He is also survived by five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.

Services were held March 30 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Reserve, withinterment at the church cemetery.

STEIB NEW ORLEANS Warren Jules Steib, 76, a native of Vacherie and a resident of New Orleans for 74 years, died March 24. He was the husband of IrmaBell Steib and father of Ledra Williams and Alisha Santee.

He was also the son of the late Emile Steib and Augustine Falgoust Gilford and the brother of Dorothy Whitehead, Shirley Wesley and Colbert Gilford.

He is also survived by four grandchildren.

Services were held March 27 in the chapel of Louisiana Undertaking Co.,New Orleans, with interment at Providence Memorial Park.

TUREAUD PAULINA Sarah Payne Tureaud, 81, a native and resident of Lutcher, died March 25. She was the mother of Wayne Tureaud Sr.She was also the daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth Brown Payne and sister of Daisy Morgan, Dora Ford, Gertrude Oubre, Olivia Bureau, Florence Payne and the late Melvina Hall and Louis, Aaron, George and Daniel Payne.

She is also survived by two grandchildren.

She was a retired teacher in St. James Parish for 39 years.Services are today at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paulina, withinterment at the church cemetery. Visitation starts at 8:30 a.m.
