Abby Leigh Rousselle has been selected as a maid in the 1999 court of the Krewe of Caesar, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.
She is the daughter of Rosalind H. Rousselle and Chuck Rousselle, both ofLaPlace.
Rousselle is an 18-year-old freshman at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, where she is majoring in elementary education. She is the maternalgranddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albin J. Hymel of Reserve and the paternalgranddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. 0. Wainwright of Metairie. She follows a familytradition of royalty, as her sister Amy was a maid in Caesar X.
Rousselle was first presented to the members of the Metairie Carnival Club at the coronation ball in October 1998. She was honored again on Jan. 23 atCaesar’s presentation ball at the New Orleans Hilton.
Rousselle will be riding in the krewe’s parade tonight as “Caesar Celebrates.”Her costume theme “French Quarter Festival” is elegantly depicted in her dusty rose colored dress and elaborately plumed and decorated shoulder piece. Popularkids’ characters, “Rug Rats,” will serve as grand marshals for the parade which begins at 6 p.m. and follows the traditional Metairie route.Caesar’s royalty will travel later this month to Orlando, Fla., as guests of WaltDisney World. While there, the krewe will parade twice nightly during theweekend preceding and through Mardi Gras Day, as Disney celebrates the Mardi Gras, New Orleans style.
Local law enforcement officer Conrad J. Baker Jr. of LaPlace is reigning asEmperor Caesar XX for all of the festivities. Baker was selected by “luck of thedraw” at the krewe’s October ball.Back to Top
