Kelly Lynn Jones will reign as queen of Allovus

LAPLACE – Kelly Lynn Jones will reign as queen of the 1999 Krewe of Allovus Carnival Ball Feb. 6 at St. Charles Catholic High School.The queen and her maids – Brandi Michelle Catoire, Jennifer Lee Edwards, Jessica M. Watts and Elizabeth Marie Dufresne – were announced Sunday ata tea at the home of Michael and Robbie Tomeny.

The identities of the king and his dukes will be revealed Sunday afternoon at a krewe social at BB’s Lounge.

The annual ball is sponsored by the LARAYO recreational organization. Thequeen and court are selected for the contributions they and their parents make to the organization.

Kelly Lynn Jones is the daughter of Sheriff Wayne Jones and JoAnn Jones.

She is a sophomore at the University of Southeastern Louisiana, where she is majoring in elementary education. She is a graduate of St. CharlesCatholic High School.

At LARAYO, Jones was on the swim team and played softball. She has alsoserved LARAYO as a swim team coach and as a lifeguard. Jones was a maidin Allovus in 1996.

During the summer Jones is quite active as a lifeguard at Belle Terre and still finds time to coach the swim team at LARAYO. Her hobbies includewalking, running, shopping and swimming.

Her parents have been LARAYO members for many years and have served it in many capacities. Her father and mother have both served on the Board ofDirectors at LARAYO, and her father has been a softball coach and a sponsor of many activities. Her father was also a duke in the Allovus Ball.Brandi Michelle Catoire is the daughter of Darrell and Deborah Catoire. Sheis a junior at St. Charles Catholic High School in LaPlace. Catoire is amember of FCA, French Club and CYO. She also is a member of the track,cross-country and swim teams of St. Charles. Catoire has been in dancefor 12 years and has won several awards in competitive dance.

At LARAYO, Catoire played softball for 11 years and was on the swim team for nine years. She has also worked as a lifeguard and in concessions.Catoire’s hobbies include dancing, running and shopping.

She plans to attend college in Louisiana and pursue studies in the field of medicine.

Her parents have been active in LARAYO for many years. Her father hascoached girls softball for two years and boys baseball for six years. Healso was a Duke in Allovus in 1997.

Jessica M. Watts is the daughter of Jewel and Crystal Watts. She is asophomore at Riverside Academy in Reserve. Watts participates insoftball, volleyball and basketball at Riverside and was a member of the 1997-98 state softball runner-up team. Watts played softball in LARAYOfor seven years.

Her hobbies include softball, volleyball, fishing and playing with her puppy.

Watts’ future aspirations include attending LSU on a softball scholarship, where she plans to study computer science.

Her parents have both been coaches at LARAYO. Her father coached boysbaseball for eight years and girls softball for one year. Her mother hascoached girls softball for four years. Watts’ father was duke in Allovus in1994.

Elizabeth Marie Dufresne is the daughter of Jun and Marie Dufrense. She isa junior at St. Charles Catholic High School. Dufresne belongs to theSpanish Club and FCA and is a student council representative at St.

Charles. She is also a member of 4-H and of the AAU Southern Bellesbasketball team. At St. Charles, she participates in basketball, cross-country, track and swimming. Dufresne was selected all-district inbasketball, swimming , cross-country and track for the last two years.

At LARAYO, she has played softball for 10 years and has been on the swim team for 11 years. She received the Charmain Faucheux Memorial Awardfor dedication to LARAYO swim team. Dufresne has also served as alifeguard and a concession worker.

Her future plans include attending college and majoring in sports medicine. She hopes to play college basketball. Dufresne’s hobbies includebasketball, softball, swimming, running and driving her jeep.

Her mother has coached softball and cabbageball for six years and was a board member for four years. Her father has coached baseball and softballfor nine years and has been on the LARAYO board for nine years. He ispresently a trustee on the LARAYO board and was duke in Allovus in 1995.

Jennifer Lee Edwards is the daughter of Rick and Kelly Edwards. She is ajunior at Ursiline Academy. At the school, she is a member of the dramaclub and Ursiline choir and has been a member of the student council for two years. She is also an active member of 4-H and is on the LA fashionboard through 4-H. Edwards has received several leadership awardsthrough 4-H as well as state awards for sewing and cooking.

Edwards has participated in softball for the past four years and played cabbageball for one year. She was on the swim team for 11 years, startingat age 4. Edwards has also been a lifeguard at LARAYO.Her hobbies are reading, sewing and fashion. She has a passion for make-up and trying new styles.

Edwards’ future plans after graduating from Ursiline are to attend college and go to pharmacy school. She also would like to help coach the swimteam at LARAYO.

Her parents have been LARAYO members for 13 years. Her father has beenon the LARAYO board for eight years and has been the Allovus krewe captain for two years. Her mother has served on the Allovus queen’scommittee for five years and was once a maid in Allovus.
