TAFT – An Edgard man died Tuesday morning, the result of a single-vehicle accident on River Road near Union Carbide.

Louisiana State Trooper Victor Schilleci reported that Cory Mitchell, 23, 183 Castle Drive, Edgard, was westbound on River Road, less than 1/2 mile from Louisiana Highway 3142, at 4:15 a.m.While coming out of a curve Mitchell left the roadway to the right and his 1994 Chevrolet Beretta flipped. Both Mitchell and his passenger, DelbertM. Bethancourt, 37, 242 East 14th St., Edgard, were ejected.Mitchell was pronounced dead at 5:22 a.m. at St. Charles Parish Hospital.Bethancourt sustained minor injuries, and he was treated and released.

Neither were wearing seatbelts, Schilleci said.
