There’s no problem getting a big wave and a smile from Cynthia Sanders August all along her mail route. They come easily from this postal workeralong the Garyville/Mt. Airy mail route she has serviced for more thanfour years.
August, a Bogalusa native and LaPlace resident for 19 years, has a daughter, Tamara, who attends Southeastern Louisiana University and a son, Brandon.
She is an active member of King Solomon Baptist Church in Lutcher and doesn’t have any problem finding other things to do when she’s not on her mail route or at the post office with postmistress Karen Ofstad and co- workers Kathy Gibson and Vader Wilson. She devotes time to tutoringchildren in math.
Computer Science was August’s major at Southern University, and her minor was math. Prior to taking over the mail route, she worked on aspecial assignment in the postal computer section in New Orleans.
However, with her background and with a look toward the future, she now attends Southern at night in order to learn the new programming languages, meanwhile applying this work toward her master’s degree.
There is something else bringing a little pride into the lives of August and her daughter. That’s Brandon. Wearing No. 31, Brandon’s name makes the paper regularly as a starrunning back for the East St. John High School football team. This isobviously is a family which believes in achievement.
