Mother, daughter killed during evacuation

BASTROP – A Gramercy mother and daughter, evacuating south Louisiana from the threat of Hurricane Georges, died Sunday in a two-vehicle accident north of Monroe.
Cam Douglas of Louisiana State Police said the 1988 Ford van being driven by Ollie Mae Butler, 52, was southbound on Louisiana Highway 140 near Glade’s Creek Road at 9:40 a.m.At that point, it was struck by a northbound 1995 Chevrolet Camero driven by Damian Fontenot, 19, of Bastrop.
Douglas said Fontenot died at the scene and that Butler, along with her mother, Ollie Mitchell Butler, 76, both died at Morehouse General Hospital, Bastrop, two hours after the accident.
It was not known, pending autopsy, whether alcohol was a factor in the accident.
