Hahnville man charged with attempted murder

HAHNVILLE – A 21-year-old Des Allemands woman told police she was terrorized by her former boyfriend on Sept. 1. The victim said she wasbeaten, held at knifepoint and threatened with his burning down her home.
Roschon M. Canon, 20, 631 Maple St., Hahnville, was charged withattempted murder, aggravated kidnapping, armed robbery, placing combustible materials, aggravated burglary, aggravated flight from an officer, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, disregarding a stop sign and no driver’s license.
Capt. Patrick Yoes reported that Canon broke into the victim’s residenceand began arguing with her. He then punched her several times, hit herwith a broken-off broom handle and held her at knifepoint.
When she tried to escape he poured lighter fluid on her kitchen floor and would have set the place on fire but she wrestled the matches away from him and threw them in a sink of water.
At 8 a.m., five hours after her ordeal began, the victim spotted a relativeoutside and used the distraction to escape. Canon then stole her car andfled the scene.
He was spotted in Hahnville by a deputy, chased down and captured in the 300 block of Elm Street.
She was taken to St. Charles Parish Hospital, Luling, for treatment of herinjuries and released. Canon’s bond was set at $925,600 by 29th JudicialDistrict Judge Robert Chaisson.
