Sheriff Champagne sworn in for 8th term

Sheriff Greg Champagne was sworn in on July 1 for his eighth term as sheriff of St. Charles Parish. He first took the oath of office on July 1, 1996, and today marks 28 years as sheriff. He was unopposed for five of his seven re-election efforts, including the latest race in October of 2023. 

He also is the longest-serving sheriff in the history of St. Charles Parish and currently is the second-longest serving active sheriff in Louisiana. He recently completed a one- year term as president of The National Sheriffs’ Association, the second time he held that post in the last eight years.

Champagne was sworn in by District Judge Rochelle C. Fahrig. Also in attendance were a small group of family, friends, public officials, and the men and women of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, to whom he also administered the oath of office. 

Following the official swearing-in, Champagne pledged to continue seeking improvement from himself and his staff and to fight against complacency. 

“I am humbled and honored to receive again the trust of the citizens of St. Charles Parish,” he said. “I will not let you down.”
