KREWE OF ALLOVUS LVIII: Carnival Ball to be held Feb. 22

The Krewe of Allovus will host its 58th ball at St. Charles Catholic High in LaPlace on February 22, 2025. This year’s theme is titled “Allovus Goes on a Road Trip.”

Members of the Krewe of Allovus are chosen based on their 55 years of participation in the LaPlace Area Recreational and Youth Organization (LARAYO) and the Krewe. This organization supports activities for families and youth and is the oldest carnival krewe in the River Parishes.

To foster community spirit and celebrate Mardi Gras, members of LARAYO formed the Krewe in 1965. That year, the first ball and parade featured Grand Marshal Bertram Madere with assistants Arnold Labat and Kyle Madere.

The Allovus Krewe paraded until 1971 when they passed the event to the LaPlace Jaycees, who organized Krewe du Monde. According to tradition, the annual parades in St. John Parish will take place the weekend before Mardi Gras.

The Krewe of Towahpahsah Parade rolls at noon on Saturday, March 1, 2025, in Reserve, and the Krewe of Dage Parade rolls at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, on Mar. 2, in LaPlace.

Barry Reine King Allovus LVIII

A lifelong resident of LaPlace, Barry Reine is proudly married to Belinda Reine and is a devoted father to three daughters. This year, the Reine family celebrates another memorable moment as three of Barry’s grandchildren—Rowan, Briar, and Swayzie—will accompany him as pages during his reign as King Allovus LVIII.

Barry is the Maintenance Supervisor at Occidental Chemical in Geismar, a role he fulfills with dedication and expertise. Beyond his professional career, Barry’s contributions to the local community are extensive, mainly through his involvement with Larayo and the Krewe of Allovus.

Barry’s relationship with Larayo began in his early childhood where he participated in baseball and football throughout his youth. In his teenage years, he became a boys’ baseball umpire, continuing through his mid-twenties.

Before his daughters could participate, Barry gave back by volunteering as a boys’ baseball coach. In 1988, he shifted his focus to coaching girls’ cabbage ball and later helped oversee the transition to fast-pitch softball—a role he embraced for 13 years. As the girls’ director during this period, Barry was instrumental in shaping the future of girls’ athletics at Larayo.

The Reine family’s deep ties to Larayo are matched only by their longstanding involvement with the Krewe of Allovus. Barry previously served as an Allovus Duke in 1996, and two of his daughters have held the honor of being Allovus Maids.

Continuing a family tradition, Barry’s children were pages during his father’s reign as King Allovus XXIII. Today, Barry and Belinda remain committed members of the Krewe, cherishing the sense of community and celebration it brings.

With decades of service, leadership, and community involvement, Barry’s reign as King Allovus LVIII is a testament to his enduring dedication to the organizations and traditions that define his family and hometown.
