River Parishes Community College gets $50,000 from Methanex for workforce scholarships

On Feb. 4, River Parishes Community College Foundation received a $50,000 donation from Methanex Corporation to support workforce education and enhance opportunities for students pursuing high-demand careers.

The donation allocates $40,000 for endowed two-year workforce scholarships, providing long-term financial support for students in process technology, instrumentation, electrical work, industrial maintenance, welding, and related fields.

Additionally, $10,000 in scholarship funding is available to assist students in enrolling for the 2024-2025 academic year. A news release states these scholarships will reduce financial barriers, helping students complete training and enter the workforce successfully.

“This investment in our students is an investment in the future of Louisiana,” said Tarie Roberson, executive director of the RPCC Foundation. “With these scholarships, we are not only providing immediate support but also securing long-term resources for generations of students to come.”

Workforce programs at RPCC are crucial for preparing skilled professionals for Louisiana’s expanding industrial sectors. By expanding scholarship opportunities, the college reinforces its mission of providing accessible, high-quality education that meets the needs of both students and industry partners, the release said.

“This scholarship endowment reflects our commitment to creating positive and sustainable impacts in the communities where we operate,” said Rawle Ramlochan, Managing Director, Methanex Geismar.
