LAPLACE — Dynamite strawberry and house special wedding cake snoballs are back on the menu at Cambridge Corner Snoballs & Creams with the return of locally-renowned “snoball lady” Lynn Bogac.
An updated flavor menu, new add-ons such as cheesecake toppings and plans for an expanded kitchen highlight an effort to revamp the snoball stand and unite the community with cool treats on hot and humid days.
After serving LaPlace residents for more than a decade, Bogac took a two-year break and sold the store to current owner Raed Odeh.
Odeh, who worked primarily in beauty sales at the time, took on the business because of its solid reputation and steady stream of customers. In the years since, he noticed something was missing and resolved to bring Cambridge Corner Snoballs & Creams back to its roots.
That included partnering with Bogac and bringing back beloved items previously cut from the menu.
Dynamite strawberry and other original flavors are mixed with a blender and take longer to make, according to Odeh. He said Cambridge Corner Snoballs & Creams stands out from other stands in the time and precision that goes into each snoball, combined with Bogac’s expertise at mixing flavors.
“A lot of residents here in LaPlace grew up with Lynn,” Odeh said. “It’s a generational thing, from children to grandparents. They were always seeing her and expecting her for more than 16 years, and customers are very happy to see her back.”
Customer Liz Welch knows Bogac well and said she’s frequented the snoball stand more in the past month than she has in previous seasons.
Drawn to sugar-free flavors, Welch is most impressed by the variety at Cambridge Corner and the quality of the ice.
“The ice is much better here than other places,” Welch said. “Being from New Orleans, we’re very picky about our snoballs. It’s not just shaved ice. It’s done in a traditional, New Orleans way.”
Bogac said the menu customers see today is double the size it was in previous years, and it’s the beginning to a season full of revamps.
She said the outside of the building is being refurbished, and poboys and chicken wings will soon be available with the expansion of the kitchen.
Ice cream freezes and shakes, nachos, hotdogs and pickles are also available.
Odeh said crawfish nachos have been an immensely popular new menu item, adding a Facebook post announcing the new selection received 461 likes and 118 shares in only two days.
Located at 1036 W. Airline Highway near the entrance of Cambridge Drive, the snoball stand is open from 1 to 9 p.m. daily from mid-February to late October.
