VACHERIE — A River Parishes man is facing a murder prosecution after a grand jury indictment handed down this week.
According to police, 26-year-old Rojae Dumas shot and killed his stepfather at approximately 11 a.m. Dec. 2. The victim, 47-year-old Reynald Jackson of Vacherie, was found face down near Wag-A-Pac convenience store in Vacherie along Louisiana 20.
St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the store, locating Jackson, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
Jackson was pronounced dead on scene, and investigators identified Dumas, Jackson’s stepson, as the shooter.
On Monday, a St. James Parish Grand Jury returned a True Bill of Indictment on Dumas, of Vacherie, for second degree murder.
Shortly after the shooting, Dumas turned himself in to the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office and was booked into the parish jail. Dumas’ arraignment is tentatively scheduled for March 19.
