RESERVE — Parents and residents concerned about school safety in the wake of last month’s mass shooting in Florida and a rash of recent school threats and arrests in Southeastern Louisiana are encouraged to attend a public town hall Monday evening.

The St. John the Baptist Parish Public School District will host the informational parent meeting regarding school threats at 6 p.m. Monday in the East St. John High School gymnasium.

Superintendent Kevin George, Sheriff Mike Tregre and District Attorney Bridget Dinvaut will be on hand to speak to parents about how such cases are handled and to answer any questions. Parents from all schools are invited to attend.

School District officials said additional police presence was used on the East St. John High campus Tuesday following a threat.

The Sheriff’s Office investigated the report and found no evidence to support a significant threat, the District said.

In a separate case, a LaPlace Elementary School eighth grader was removed from the school Feb. 16 and extra security was added Feb. 16 and 18, according to District officials, after it was reported the student in question talked about what he would do if he “shot up the school.”

The District has been using robocalls and social media to communicate the threats with parents.
