Applications are now being accepted for Garyville/Mt. Airy Math and Science Magnet School for the 2014-15 school year.

Applications are available at the GMMS school office, the St. John the Baptist Parish School Board office or online on the school website. The deadline to apply is April 30.

Applications will be accepted on a first-come basis as long as the student meets the prerequisites for admission. Students interested in applying should meet the requirements for their grade level, or they will forfeit their magnet seat and be returned to their home school.

Students applying

for admission to the fifth grade will be required to pass the fourth-grade LEAP test in the spring or summer. Any designated entrance requirement must also be met before the sibling guarantee is applied.

Applications must include a copy of the student’s birth certificate, Social Security card, immunization record, report cards and attendance records for previous year and two proofs of residency for St. John the

Baptist Parish, such as a utility bill, landline phone bill or rental documents.

The child’s name on the application must match the name on his birth certificate and Social Security card. The names on the proofs of residency must match the parent or legal guardian’s name listed on the application. Legal documents will be requested for guardianship of the child if the guardian is not named on the birth certificate.
