LAPLACE — A LaPlace fire destroyed a local family’s home last week; however, no one was injured during the afternoon blaze, authorities said.
Firefighters with the St. John Parish Office of Fire Services responded to a mobile home at 1:30 p.m. Friday, discovering the structure on 106 Neil Court with flames and smoke visible from the front door.
Authorities said they pulled a hose line to the front door and made entry into the residence to extinguish the fire, indicating it was under control within 15 minutes of arrival.
“The fire damaged over 50 percent of the structure, with the rest receiving smoke damage,” an incident report read. “The fire started in the kitchen, and the cause is still under investigation.”
No injuries were reported and firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading to other nearby structures. The Red Cross was notified to assist the family with a place to stay.
