James L. “Cotton” Rogers, 92, of Junction City, La., died of cardiac arrest on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at Christus Highland Medical Center in Shreveport. He was born April 27, 1921, in Claiborne Parish and graduated from Summerfield High School.

In WWII, he served as airplane mechanic in the U.S. Army Air Corps 404th Group, 508th Squadron and earned a Bronze Star. He worked for Shell Pipe Line from 1945 until retirement in 1985.   

Cotton had a life-long passion for hunting and fishing. In his final hunting

season, he killed

five deer and helped skin the last at Thanksgiving.   

Cotton was married 62 years to Kathleen Cox Rogers until her death in 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cub Alfred and Nancy Norred Rodgers; one brother, Monroe Rodgers; three sisters, Thelma Barber, Leolia Hudgens and Elma Bearden; and one grandson, James Lester Rogers.   

He is survived by two daughters, Nancy Holmes and husband, Walter, of Waco, Texas, and Betty Rogers of Washington, D.C.; two sons, Wayne Rogers and wife, Sherry, of Ponchatoula and David Rogers and

wife, Katy, of

San Antonio; five grandchildren, Charlotte Ortegon and husband, Mario, Sarah Gallimore and husband, Jason, Lucy Boutte and husband, Christian, Ryan Rogers and Madeline Rogers; and six great-grandchildren, Jeran Gallimore, Jacob Gallimore, Sophie Ortegon, Santana Ortegon, Jim Wayne Rogers and Lucy Marie Rogers.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at Bailey funeral Home in Junction City. Funeral Service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. A private family burial will take place at Antioch Cemetery in Dixie Inn, La., at a later time.
