Ascension of Our Lord students participated in the blessing and viewing of the St. Joseph’s Altar.
Every year in March, the church parish sets up the Altar as a way to pay homage to St. Joseph through petition and thanksgiving. The Altar is set up in three tiers, representing the Holy Trinity.
A statue of St. Joseph is placed on the top tier, usually surrounded by flowers, greenery, and fruit. Also, breads, cakes and cookies, baked in symbolic Christian shapes, adorn the Altar.
Three days of public viewing concluded Sunday at Piovan Parish Hall.
Symbols of St. Joseph, such as lilies, staffs, sandals, ladders, saws, hammers and nails, were also used.
Italian cookies, baked goods, wine, candles, medals, rosaries and holy cards were available for a donation, with all proceeds going to the Saltillo, Mexico, Missions.
