LULING — A motorist was killed following a two-vehicle wreck in St. Charles Parish Friday, and the district attorney’s office is considering this week if a teenager should be charged for her role in the wreck.

Louisiana State Police Troop B was notified of an injury crash that occurred at approximately 6:40 a.m. Friday on U.S. Highway 90 eastbound near Coronado Drive in Luling.

Prelimi-nary investigation revealed a 2002 Jeep Cherokee operated by a 16-year-old female, whose name was not released because she is a juvenile, was traveling northbound on Coronado. A 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle operated by Dean Jiles, 23, was traveling eastbound on Highway 90 in the left lane.

“The juvenile disregarded a stop sign, proceeded onto Highway 90 eastbound and struck the Kawasaki,” a press release said. “Jiles was ejected from the Kawasaki, sustaining injuries. He was taken to the Interim LSU Hospital LEVEL 1 Trauma Center in New Orleans.”

Master Trooper Greg Marchand of the Louisiana State Police said Jiles, of Covington, died early Saturday morning.

Jiles was wearing a D.O.T.-approved helmet, authorities said, adding the juvenile was restrained and refused medical treatment.

“Impairment is not suspected in this crash,” a release said. “Charges for the juvenile are pending review by the St. Charles Parish District Attorney’s Office, as this crash remains under investigation.”

Marchand said when there is a fatality, it is typical for state police to turn the case over to the district attorney’s office.

Calls to the D.A.’s office on Monday and Tuesday morning were not returned as of press time.
