RESERVE — The election to permanently replace departing St. John the Baptist Parish Public School Board Member Rodney B. Nicholas is scheduled for March 25.

Nicholas’ interim replacement is expected to be named Thursday during the School Board’s regularly scheduled meeting.

School District Superintendent Kevin George said Nicholas is staying on as District 10’s representative through 2016, with the interim replacement beginning in 2017.

According to George, Nicholas will be a voting member on all issues this calendar year except for his replacement.

Candidates looking to qualify for March 25’s election can due so between Jan. 11 and Jan. 13.

Nicholas’ current term expires in December 2018.

Early voting for the election runs March 11-18. Voters who want to participate in the election must be registered by Feb. 22.

Nicholas previously announced he was leaving the School Board to serve as chief deputy of the St. John the Baptist Parish Assessor’s Office. Nicholas has served as the District 10 representative since 2011.

Nicholas said it is a pleasure to work with a dynamic team that improved the district from a ‘D’ school district to a ‘B’ district that is “still growing.”

Following an advertising process, School Board members accepted applications for the interim position through Dec. 2.

Applicants had to be 18, a Louisiana resident for two years, domiciled in St. John the Baptist Parish and District 10 for the past year and a current resident of District 10.
