GARYVILLE — Some children dream of being doctors, policemen or firemen.
When Sean Delaneuville was growing up, he always wanted to own his own restaurant.
After his high school football practice, he told a teammate: “I’m going to open a restaurant one day and I’m going to call it Fatty’s.”
He did, opening Fatty’s Restaurant in historic downtown Garyville in 2006. It soon became a River Parishes favorite for hungry folks from near and far.
In fact, Delaneuville said folks often ask for Mr. Fatty when they call or visit.
“I guess I’m good at what I do,” he said, patting his belly.
Delaneuville may not be known as Mr. Fatty for long. He recently decided to sell the Garyville restaurant to devote his attention to his new venture, Tavern 61 in LaPlace.
“I’m just looking to change things up a little,” he said.
A smoke-free sports bar located at 1421 W. Airline Highway, Tavern 61 is a venue for watching the big games and listening to live music. It also is available for parties and meetings.
Delaneuville said he soon will begin offering lunch at Tavern 61 and may bring some menu items over from Fatty’s.
“I’m not shutting (Fatty’s Restaurant) down or anything like that,” he said. “I want to find a buyer who will keep it going.”
