Keller: Special family raises wonderful kids

My nephew, Travis; his wife, Bonnie and their three children live in Ponchatoula. I don’t know any other couple who does a better job of raising their children.
Their son, Cooper, 8, and his sisters Grace, 10 and Ava, 5, are challenged mentally, physically and spiritually to live a well-balanced and successful life. They all do well in school.
Cooper loves all sports and is very competitive. Last week, he played his first flag football game.
He made two touchdowns and had an interception.
His personal cheerleaders (Grace and Ava) were there to cheer him on.
After the game his dad said, “How did you make that interception?” (Only if you understand football language will you understand his answer.) “Daddy, I baited the quarterback and read his eyes. I knew where he would throw the ball.”
He carries that spirit into the classroom.
He participates in an accelerating readers program and is determined to be the student receiving the highest points. Points are given for the number of books you read and according to their substance.
Last week, he told his mother, “I think I’ll read the Bible. That’s a big book and I’ll get plenty points.”
His mom said that was OK. The third day while reading the Bible, he said, “Mom, what is adultery?”
She was startled and said, “Cooper, maybe you should just stay with the list of books the teacher gave you.”
It’s amazing what comes out of the mouths of children.
Travis, a teacher in the Tangipahoa school system, and Bonnie, a veterinarian, have been blessed with three precious children.
They realize that they are gifts from God and their responsibility is to equip them to fulfill God’s purpose for each of their lives. I have no doubt that God is well pleased with the job they are doing.
