LAPLACE — A St. John the Baptist Parish man was killed Monday, the result of a boating collision with a submerged tree limb, authorities said.
Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents recovered the body of Garyville’s Nelson Trosclair at approximately 3 a.m. from a waterway in St. John Parish.
Fisheries agents and St. John the Baptist Sheriff Office deputies recovered Trosclair, 54, from the Mississippi Bayou and brought him to the Hope Canal boat launch.
Medical personnel pronounced Trosclair dead at the boat launch.
Agents learned three men were frogging in Mississippi Bayou when they hit a submerged tree limb, ejecting Trosclair from the 17-foot flat bottom vessel into the water.
The two other men on the boat tried to retrieve Trosclair but were unsuccessful and called 911 for assistance, authorities said.
Wildlife and Fisheries is leading the investigation. Trosclair was recovered without a personal flotation device and his body was turned over to the New Orleans forensic center to determine a cause of death.
