COMMUNITY BRIEFS: Precinct 3-4 changes voting location

RESERVE — The voting location for St. John the Baptist Parish Precinct 3-4 has been changed.

According to the Registrar of Voters Office, voters are no longer voting at Ninth Grade Building and are now to vote at the East St. John High School main campus, 3000 W. Airline Highway in Reserve.

The Registrar’s office is in the process of sending new voter identification cards to everyone impacted by the change.

Sew to help flood victims

LAPLACE — The St. John the Baptist Parish 4-H Sewing Club is making owl pillows with pockets for the children that were impacted by the recent historic flood.

Those interested in helping are asked to attend the 4-H sewing club meeting from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 27 at the old Gold Eagle Security office, located on Fairway Drive and Carrollwood Drive in LaPlace.

Attendees are asked to bring donations, such as toothpaste, toothbrush, small books, barrettes for hair, soap, hand towels, individually wrapped candies or fruit snacks to put in the owl pillow pocket.

Any donation will be appreciated.

If you have a sewing kit, please bring it.

Airline Highway closed for turn lane

LAPLACE — The southbound, right lane of Airline Highway will stay closed through Friday.

The closure is in effect daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Rue de Sante in LaPlace for construction of a turn lane.

The left lane will be open at all times. Reduced speed limits are posted.

Motorists can avoid the construction by detouring on Interstate 10 or Louisiana 44.
