Inez Adele Guidry Montz

Inez was born Oct. 27, 1916, and grew up on Terre Haute Plantation as a daughter of sugar cane farmers. She graduated from the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau in 1934 and in 1938 she married Elmore Montz Sr.

Shortly thereafter they moved to Eunice where they owned and operated the Roosevelt Restaurant for 23 years. Her delicious pies were customer favorites. Besides her contributions to running the Roosevelt, she was a housewife and mother managing the job of raising nine children.

In 1986, she and her husband moved from Eunice to Lafayette to be near their children.

Inez was a wonderful Cajun cook and enjoyed nothing more than to prepare a meal of fresh food for her family. She loved to be outdoors enjoying nature’s simple beauty. For countless years she picked and cleaned pecans to share with her family and friends until her fingers could no longer manage the task.

Inez is survived by her nine children, Elmore Jr., (Cecile) Mary Virginia LeDoux, Ruth Nelson (Bruce), Jebby (Margaret), Madeleine Mouton (Francis), Charlie (Charlene), Tommy (Carla), Lulu Veron (Ronnie), Mimi Anderson (Steve); 30 grandchildren; 57 great grandchildren and one sister, Theresa Hotard.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years; her parents, Edwin Sr. and Eva Guidry; nine brothers; one sister; granddaughter Melissa Marie Montz and daughter-in-law Clare Francois Montz.

Private funeral services will be held at a Mass of Christian Burial in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers with Interment at Fountain Memorial Cemetery.

The family extends a wholehearted thank you to the entire staff at Bethany Health Care Center for their care and kind support during the last few years of her life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Bethany Most Holy Sacrament Sisters, c/o Sisters of the MHS, P.O. Box 90037, Lafayette, LA 70509.

Personal condolences may be sent to the Montz family at delhommefuneralhome.com.

Delhomme Funeral Home, of Lafayette, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
