LAPLACE — Within 30 minutes Wednesday morning, 2.7 inches of rainfall was recorded at the St. Andrews Fire Station in LaPlace and 2.5 inches on West 6th St. in Reserve.

The heavy rainfall caused street flooding, and St. John the Baptist and St. James parishes were put under a Flash Flood Warning that ended at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Ponding of water and street flooding in low-lying areas were reported, as well as sporadic power outages in LaPlace and Reserve, with an estimated time of restoration for 2 p.m. in LaPlace Park.

Additional street flooding may occur, parish leaders said, due to saturated grounds and the possibility of 1 to 3 more inches of rainfall with locally higher amounts.

All St. John pump and lift stations are functioning properly. Public Works and Utilities crews are assessing problem areas throughout the parish and will remain on standby should other pop-up storms occur, parish officials said.

Residents are asked to call 9-1-1 to report any street flooding to allow for proper dispatch of Parish employees. Motorists should stay off of the roads during inclement weather.

Primary power has been restored to Water District #1, which includes Reserve, Garyville and Mt. Airy). However, Utilities and contractor personnel are working at the Lions Plant to make repairs to the auxiliary power source.

Water customers in Reserve, Garyville and Mt. Airy remain under a Boil Water Advisory as a precaution due to a loss in water pressure until further notice.

Please boil water for one minute before consumption or food preparation. Showering and bathing is not affected.

St. John the Baptist Parish officials said they remain in close communications with the National Weather Center and will continue to work throughout the weather event.
