LAPLACE — Cannamon Toast Crunch, Froot Poofs and Weetos.
They may sound familiar and come in packages that look familiar, but they are illegal.
During a recent narcotics investigation in LaPlace, St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Angel Thompson said detectives observed what appeared to be normal bags of snacks.
“Upon closer inspection, detectives noticed name, character and logo variations of commonly known brands of snacks, as well as cannabis labeling on the packages,” Thompson said.
A drug test revealed the snacks included THC, the chemical compound found in marijuana.
While these medical cannabis treats may be legally manufactured, according to local authorities, it is illegal to sell and buy these products in Louisiana.
Sheriff Mike Tregre said he wants residents to be aware of the potential threat to the health of those who may ingest these products, while warning the possession and distribution of these products is a crime in Louisiana.
