LAPLACE — The St. John the Baptist Parish Parks and Recreation Department is teaming up with the American Red Cross this summer to offer free swimming lessons for Parish youth ages 5 to 17 and adults ages 18 and over.

Participants will undergo five 45-minute swimming lessons focusing on floating, kicking, breathing, arm movement and swimming to the side of the pool.

Early registration takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Walmart in LaPlace.

Applicants can also register by visiting the Recreation Office at 200 REGALA Park Road in Reserve during normal business hours.

The Ashley Kelly Swim Program gives participants the opportunity to receive life-saving swimming skills and teaches safety in and around swimming pools and other bodies of water.
