Man threatens grandma, runs from police, cops say

LAPLACE — A local man was arrested for threatening his grandmother with a gun and beating another woman in attempt to steal her car, authorities said.
St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded at 11 p.m. Friday to a residence in the 600 block of Gardenia Drive in LaPlace, where the complainant said a male subject, her grandson, threatened her.
Sheriff Mike Tregre said upon arrival at the residence, the complainant told deputies her grandson called early in the night and threatened to come to the residence with a gun.
“The suspect was identified as Jessie Bailey, 22, of LaPlace,” Tregre said.
“As other deputies were en route to the residence, they discovered Bailey’s car in a ditch in the 600 block of Gardenia.”
After authorities tried to make contact with Bailey, he fled on foot. While pursing him, deputies were advised Bailey had struck a woman in the head and neck and attempted to take her car in the 500 block of Magnolia Street, Tregre said.
The victim refused medical treatment.
“During a search after arrest, deputies discovered a clear sandwich bag of marijuana Bailey is charged with flight from an officer, attempted carjacking, reckless operation of a vehicle, simple battery, possession or distribution of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. The suspect is being held in lieu of a $34,250 bond.
