LAPLACE — A man authorities said has been arrested more than 80 times was arrested again last week, accused of drug possession and attempting to grab a police officer’s gun, authorities said.
Shawn C. Fisher, 46, of LaPlace is being held in lieu of a $38,250 bond.
He as booked Friday with two counts of possession of marijuana, two counts of resisting an officer, simple criminal damage to property, obstructing public passages, two counts of resisting an officer with force or violence, two counts of disarming a peace officer, obstruction of justice and two counts of battery of a police officer.
Sheriff Mike Tregre said St. John the Baptist Parish deputies were dispatched to Elm and West 5th Streets in LaPlace at 1:30 a.m. Friday after a vehicle spotted at the traffic light appeared to contain a driver who was sleeping.
Upon arrival, Tregre said deputies woke the driver and identified him as Fisher.
“As Fisher was exiting the vehicle, a deputy observed him chewing a large white mass,” Tregre said in a release. “An altercation then occurred between deputies and Fisher, who attempted to grab a deputy’s gun before he was detained. Once Fisher was removed from a deputy’s unit, deputies also found a clear plastic bag containing marijuana in the unit.”
According to Tregre, Fisher has been arrested more than 80 times since 1989.
